For five weeks students, professors, workshop maestri and special guests share a communal life.

Academic classes

In the morning there are classes for five hours, given by professors from well-known Italian universities.

Cultural lectures of academic standard are centered on Italian language, literature, visual arts, society and politics.
Newspaper and video library
The early hours in the afternoon are assigned to personal research. The Lab’s books, newspaper and video libraries are accessable as well as the multi-media library of the Cineteca del Friuli.
Workshops
The afternoon is devoted to creative workshops (botteghe) that are led by professionals in archaeology, theatre, music, videocinema, photography, design, pottery, cabaret and journalism.
Video and cinema
Evenings are dedicated to the viewing of the most significant contemporary Italian films, which are critically analised during the morning classes.
Recreational activities
There are special events, parties, sports facilities and performances, in cooperation with local groups and associations.
Seminars
These allow for further discussion of themes being researched with the expertise of leading figures of Italian and foreign culture (e. g.: Michelangelo Antonioni, Cesare Zavattini, Pupi Avati, Istvan Szöts, Mario Monicelli, Alida Valli, Edoardo Sanguineti, Mario Luzi, Paolo e Vittorio Taviani, David Maria Turoldo, Souleymane Cissé, Renzo Arbore, Fabrizio De André, Carlo Sgorlon, Fulvio Tomizza, Predrag Matvejevic, Romano Prodi, Derrik De Kerckhove, Alfonso Sabella, Khalida Toumi Messaoudi, Margherita Hack, Gherardo Colombo, Don Luigi Ciotti, Sergio Zavoli).
Cultural events
Movie screening with Cineteca del Friuli: "Cinema sotto le stelle" (in an open-air movie theatre), with leading figures of Italian and international cinema (Mario Monicelli, Giuseppe Piccioni, Luca Bigazzi, Mimmo Calopresti, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Franco Piavoli, Francesco Bruni, Dante Spinotti, Mario Brenta, Giuseppe De Santis, Pupi Avati, Alida Valli, Cesare Zavattini, Lina Sastri).

Creation of videos
In collaboration with Colorado Film-Telepiù: Il cerchio (1996). Gemona. Piccola Atene (1998).
Theatrical performances and concerts
Performance of cabaret, "commedia dell’Arte" and narrative theatre (Marco Paolini, Silvio Castiglioni, Roberto Citran, Claudia Contin).

Gamajun International Award
The international award "Città di Gemona" was first presented in 1990.
